Scholarships
We think that scholarships are a great way to support our students as well as make GDHS an attractive choice. Why not ask your class, team or friends to create an award celebrating the life of a loved one, or friend?
Call the Secretary, Mary Simpson 519 287-3566 who will help you work out the details with the GDHS Alumni & Friends Association and the GDHS Scholarship Committee. The Association, a charitable institution, will manage the fund, and GDHS will arrange for the annual presentation of the award.
There are two Alumni Scholarships so far.
1. The G.D.H.S. 50th Anniversary Reunion Award was established in 2003 by the 50th Reunion Committee with remaining funds from the 50th celebrations. Worth $700 annually, the award recipient must demonstrate reasonable academic proficiency; community involvement; and leadership skills.
2. The $500 G.D.H.S. Alumni and Friends Association Scholarship is in memory of all alumni and teachers who have contributed their skills, talents, achievements and enthusiasm toward making this school a great place. This scholarship is granted to a graduating student who intends to pursue post secondary training. The award is not necessarily intended for the top student but for the exemplary student who might otherwise be overlooked (particularly those entering the skilled trades).
