Sports Report

The GDHS athletic season is well under way with several teams off to a successful start. The field hockey team is currently 2nd in the standings with wins against West Elgin and North Middlesex, a tie against SDCI and a loss against SDCI.

The junior boy’s volleyball team is in 1st place in the standings with a 3-0 record. They have beaten teams from C. Elgin, St. Joe’s and E. Elgin. The team played in a tournament at Arthur Voeden on Saturday losing in the finals to a strong London Christian squad. In the same tournament, the senior team lost in the semi-finals to Westminster, the eventual tournament champions. During regular season play, the senior boy’s volleyball team has won one of its matches against St. Joe’s but despite starting out strong has been unable to defeat C. Elgin and E. Elgin. Tim Lilley has confidence that the team will continue to improve.

There are only 10 players on the junior girl’s basketball team but all of them play with heart. This team has faced three very strong and tall opponents, C. Elgin, Parkside and St. Joe’s and has been unable to come up with a win. However, they have scored 44 points and are getting better with each game they play.

On Thursday September 30th, the cross country team represented Glencoe at the Banting Bronco’s Springbank Invitational Meet. This was a small group of 3 midget boys, 1 junior boy, and 2 senior boys. Despite having been active for most of the previous day and night at GALE FORCE, the runners turned out some of the best times yet!

Glencoe’s cheerleading team is hard at work in the gym. The team participated in the Glencoe Fair Parade winning 2nd place for a school float. Cheerleaders are currently selling chocolates as a fundraiser.

The golf team competed in the TVRAA Boy’s Tri-County Golf Championships on September 24th in Ingersoll placing 2nd with an overall score of 279. Team members Dylan Carnegie and Nick Moxam placed 2nd and 3rd respectively with scores of 87 and 89.
