Ms. Grover’s cheerleading team has been hard at work and is gearing up for their visit to a Power Cheer gym in Cambridge on Friday Oct.22nd where they will stunt, dance and tumble with National Champion cheerleaders. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone! By the way, Ms. Grover ran her second marathon in Toronto this past weekend. Way to go, Grover!
On Friday October 22, Ms. Bowley will accompany 4 students, Sarah Deller, Bailey Tuffin, Emma Holder and Brianne Bertrand to the TVDSB Safe Schools Conference. This annual event gives students the opportunity to share ideas with students from other schools and make plans for violence prevention activities within the school. One such violence prevention initiative is already underway. Students from the Social Justice Committee are busy encouraging students to record their 1000 Acts of Kindness in a log book which will be sent to the TVDSB office to be shared with other schools. This week, Ms. Denning will begin training senior students to act as facilitators for another violence prevention initiative geared to students in grades 9 and 10. On November 4th student actors will visit GDHS to present the play “Blue” which addresses the issue of stereotyping and discrimination. The student facilitators will lead follow-up activities in the class rooms.
On Thursday this past week several students took the bus to Conestoga College to learn about opportunities for post secondary education and to get a tour of the campus. Students have had or will have the opportunity to attend several university and college presentations over the next couple of months as they begin to consider their next steps.
The Canadian Blood Services will be hosting a clinic in the GDHS gym on Friday October 22nd. Check signs around town for details.
Several students from Ms. Vollick-Ross’s Resource class and Ms. Denning’s Developmentally Challenged class have been running Helping Hands, a United Way initiative. GDHS students and staff have raised over $1000.00 dollars for the United Way so far this month.
