Remembrance Day Assembly

A Remembrance Day assembly was put on by Mr. MacGregor’s Grade 10 History class. Several students read soldiers’ letters, and recited In Flanders’ Fields. The band played O Canada, another rousing number, and Heather Holman performed Last Post perfectly. As well, McKenzie Clarke and Jenny Muyleart  sang  A Travelling Soldier.

Our Students’ Council presidents, Michael McGill and Logan Arnold represented GDHS at the cenotaph ceremony.

The Students’ Council attended the Ontario Students Leadership Camp in Niagara Falls last week. This conference brings 2400 students together to share ideas, listen to keynote speakers and participate in workshops. Our nineteen students will be presenting what they have learned and hope to implement at the Students’ Council meeting on Tuesday. All of our students came away invigorated and inspired.

There have been some exciting games to watch over the past two weeks for both the basketball and volleyball teams. The junior boys’ volleyball team has advanced to the semi-finals after consolidating their 1st place rank in the South – West division. The senior boys’ team has ended its season with a loss against Parkside C. I.

Volleyball tryouts have begun for the junior and senior girls. These will run mornings this week with teams being picked by next week. Tim Lilley is coaching the senior team for the 3rd year in a row, and Gord Welshman is coaching the junior team.

The wrestling team has been hard at work over the past month, preparing for their first meet coming up soon.
