Forty Physical Education students attended a ski trip to Boler Mountain on Monday March 7th. These classes will also have the opportunity to try Sledge hockey as members of the Ontario Sledge Hockey Association will be coming to the Glencoe arena on March 9th to demonstrate this unique sport.
The GDHS winter sports teams have wrapped up their seasons over the past two weeks and Glencoe has been well represented.
The boys’ Junior Basketball team travelled to London Christian on Friday February 24 to compete in WOSSAA. Their first game was against the North Middlesex Marauders and despite an amazing come back by Glencoe in the second half the boys ended up losing by a disappointing 3 points. This put them in the Bronze medal match against a bigger Mitchell team. Glencoe came out strong and never let up, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. The final score was 62-59 for Glencoe. This is the second Bronze WOSSAA medal for this team in two years.
Andrew Pease travelled to Sudbury to compete in OFSAA wrestling this past weekend
Curling playdowns for the boys’ team were held in St. Thomas. The team won the TVRAA South division and qualified for WOSSAA. Unfortunately, they did not win any games at WOSSAA but represented Glencoe with class and good sportsmanship. The girls’ team ended up a very respectable 3rd place in their TVRAA South division. GDHS appreciates the time and expertise Margaret May has volunteered while coaching these teams.
Tryouts and practices have begun for the Spring sports teams. Students may play badminton or tennis, and track and field or soccer. Coaches are hoping the snow disappears so practices can be held outside. In the meantime, students will practice in the gym.
